My Kanon 2006 DVD arrived earlier today, which has made my week. Downside is that it’s only taken me 5 hours between unwrapping the DVD and starting to watch the series due to other occurances, being the Korean Manwha “Hanami International Love Story”, and the Manga “High School of the Dead”.

Kanon 2006:
Much love to this series. I’m on my third run-through of the series now. It’s one of my all-time favourites, despite the lowpoint towards the end of the Makoto arc. It’s really interesting to rewatch those “flag” points that make the series all the more better. Yuuichi calling Nayuki “Jirou” may not be gold, but it got a laugh out of me again.

Hanami International Love Story:
I picked the first three volumes this morning. I’m not one to read Manwha usually, but I felt compelled to get it. And I’m glad I did too. Right from the off, it’s a steady rollercoaster of comedy and coming to terms with feelings, with slight fanservice here and there. I really feel for Hanami though, because she doesn’t understand Joonho’s relationship with Sae-un and her past with Shotaro, who on the other hand is “somehow involved in Kei’s death”, which intrigues me. Apologies on the spoilers if anyone hasn’t read it yet. But damn, Joori should have at least been placed in the manwha sooner, she’s that damn awesome.

High School of the Dead:
Well damn. This truly is a great series. I initially had doubts when I first saw it, mostly due to the whole “Zombie Pandemic” theme, but really, each of the main characters are so unique, that it gives off the best edge of the series. I’d say Saeko and Saya are the better characters, especially Saeko after Chapter 17 when she reveals her thoughts on killing. But really, read this manga. I can’t put it into words how great it is.

Yes, I am well aware of the fact that there are already many out there, and there’s the Animeblogger site, but it doesn’t hurt to try blogging, does it?
